Saltash
Music, Speech & Drama Festival - last week of January
and first week of February
Held annually since 1990 at the Wesley
Methodist Church, this competition festival is open to all
age-groups. There are classes for individuals and for groups, for
poetry, prose, recital, bible reading, drama, singing and instrumental
music. Audiences are welcome throughout the two weeks of the festival,
and a Gala Concert is held at the end of the fortnight.
Saltash May Fair - May Bank
Holiday weekend
Continuing an 800-year tradition, this two-day event starts on the
Saturday in a traffic-free
Fore
Street with a parade, an arena where local and national talent
show what they can do, street stalls, sideshows, and other street
activities. Sunday is the turn of the more energetic, with the Saltash
Half Marathon, and the Fun Run around a scenic route in the Saltash
area.
St Barnabas' Hospital Summer Fete
- June
This afternoon event, held at St Barnabas' Hospital in
Higher
Port View, includes cream teas, sideshows, stalls, music by the
Saltash Town Band, and a tour of the hospital.
Saltash
Regatta - last weekend of June
Founded in 1835, this two-day event held at Saltash
Waterside
and on the Tamar offers something for everyone; CPGA County Mixed and
Veterans Championship Gig Racing and other boat races, a fun-fair,
market stalls, craft fair, displays and exhibitions, live music, and
more.
Forder Summer Fete - July
Held at
Forder
village, this traditional afternoon event includes boat races
(weather and tide permitting), stalls, sideshows, a barbecue, a
raffle, and music by Saltash Town Band.
Saltash Open Air Carol Service
- second Monday in December
This evening service is held by torchlight in
Victoria
Gardens at the top of Fore Street, and is followed by the
switching on of the town's Christmas Lights.
Forder Carol Service - last
Saturday before Christmas
The Vicar of St Stephen's Church presides over this evening service
held outdoors at
Forder
village. There is a raffle, and Father Christmas makes an
appearance to distribute gifts among the local children.
