Welcome to Kernoweb, my Internet home-from-home. My name is Sylvia, and I'm a happily married housewife, mother of five and grandmother of two. I was born in Wales, but I have lived since 1981 in the town of Saltash, in Cornwall (Kernow).
My main hobbies are reading, country walks, and the Internet (not necessarily in that order). Over the years since my introduction to the Internet in 1999, it has become my principal source of information and entertainment, as well as my major hobby. (I even met and courted my beloved husband online!) I presently run three websites from here, Salamanders Young Burn Survivors (online since 2000), Welcome to Saltash (added 2006), and Sylvia's Snapshots (added 2008), and am working on a couple of new ones. Elsewhere, I have Ailurophilia, a collection of pages for cat-lovers, and I also have my own little corner on Wordpress; it's not a true blog, more of a scrapbook, but I'd be most happy to see you there if you care to visit.
The tartan on this page, in case you were wondering, is the Cornish National District Tartan. Each colour in the National Tartan has a special meaning: white on black is for St. Piran (the patron saint of Cornwall and of tin miners), black and gold were the colours of the ancient Cornish kings, red is for the beak and legs of the chough (the Cornish national bird), and blue is for the sea surrounding Cornwall.
